Internships

This 2024 season, we are accepting applications for TWO full-season, 8-month Garden and Harvest internship positions.

Applications will be accepted until February 8th. We will check references and reach out to applicants to schedule interviews as applications arrive.

Candidates for this position must be committed to participating fully in our Herbalist Mentorship Community program and meet the requirements to be eligible to do so.

Candidates should have valid farming/gardening experience and/or wildcrafting experience including solid medicinal plant identification, knowledge of harvesting and basic medicine making live in the Burlington, VT area.

This 8-month position, from mid-March through late -November,  will require an average of 5 hours per week of work.  Applicants for this position must be available on some weekdays during daytime hours for 2.5 hours each day (and the designated monthly Sunday afternoons for the Mentorship). Best timing for these workdays can be adapted to your schedule and availability.  And flexibility will be required of all to flow with the weather and the plants own timing!

In exchange for these efforts (and meeting the directors' clearly delineated expectations over the course of the season) the intern participates in our Herbalist Mentorship Community program free of charge (an $800 value).  Shared plant material from harvests and transplanting will also be an optional benefit to help you to grow your own garden and home apothecary.

For more information about Spoonful Herbals and the Mentorship program, please visit our webpage: www.spoonfulherbals.org/mentorship

Both Interns will work together as much as the work allows while sharing different focuses for their responsibilities. Directors will clearly define these expectations, and the work will adapt with seasonal priorities.  Gardening responsibilities will involve several garden spaces in the area, and gleaning and wildcrafting efforts will span a number of partner landscapes.  Participation in other aspects of the organization will also be involved, including the drying and processing of plant materials, record-keeping and inventory, medicine-making efforts, guiding volunteers and fellow mentees, and supporting other Spoonful events and programming.

These temporary staff positions will be part of a small team which includes both co-directors, our marketing and social media director,  and a number of shorter term college student interns, while concurrently participating fully as a mentee in the Herbalist Mentorship Community program and regularly guiding fellow mentees in participating in your work.
